What to expect at your 1st personal training session

Starting personal training can feel overwhelming, especially if you’re neurodivergent, new to the gym, or just haven’t felt seen or supported in fitness spaces before. That’s why I want to walk you through exactly what happens in your first personal training session with me. No surprises, no pressure, just support, encouragement and understanding from the very start.

Not So Typical Welcome

The first session isn’t about pushing you to your limit. It’s about getting to know you. We’ll sit down and have a relaxed conversation about your goals, any challenges you're facing (mental, physical, sensory) and what you’re hoping to get out of training.

If you’ve ever felt judged or misunderstood by fitness professionals before, please know: that’s not how I work.

You’re safe here.

Gym Walk-Through

If we’re training at the gym and you haven’t already had an induction with me, I’ll give you a mini tour and show you the equipment we might use. This is so you know what’s what and where things are. No need to memorise it all or pretend you know the difference between a lat pulldown and a leg press (I’ll guide you every step of the way).

For online clients, I’ll ask about what space and equipment you have access to and we’ll build your plan around that, not the other way around.

Everything at Your Pace

Depending on how you're feeling, we’ll explore some basic movement. Think bodyweight exercises, mobility, or a light machine or cardio warm-up, only if you're ready. This helps me see how you are able to move your body and follow instructions, plus it helps you build confidence without pressure.

Nothing is a test. You won’t be made to do anything you’re uncomfortable with. This first session is all about building trust between us and between you and your body.

Bespoke Plan For You

After your session, I’ll create a personalised plan that works for you, your lifestyle, your brain and your body. Whether you need visual guides, flexible structure, or even reminders, we’ll build it together.

If you want accountability, I’ll offer it. If you need space, I’ll give it. If your energy changes day to day, we’ll adapt. You’re in charge here, I’m just your guide.

If you’re not yet ready to get started on your own personal training journey, you are still more than welcome in the free community. It is a place for sharing, support, asking questions and building fitness and health confidence in ways that work for you.

Personal Training Safe Space

It’s okay to feel anxious. It’s okay to feel excited. It’s okay to cry, laugh, ask the same thing twice, or celebrate the fact that you even showed up. I know how much it takes just to get started and that first session is all about making sure you leave feeling proud and empowered.

Getting Started

You don’t need to be “fit enough” to start. You just need to start. And if you’ve been waiting for the right time, the right person, or the right environment, that time might be now and that person might be me. I run sessions across various gyms in Wolverhampton, including JD Gyms and Codsall Leisure Centre.

If you're interested in booking your first session (online or in person), drop me a message or check out my contact page. I can't wait to support you on your journey.
