Is this Legs, Bums & Tums class suitable for beginners?
Yes. This class is beginner-friendly and suitable if you’ve never attended a gym class before. Every exercise is explained clearly, and options are provided so you can choose what feels right for your body.
There are always options that either progress of regress the movements. You are also able to choose your own weights to use. I will always be on hand for guidance but you know your body and strength more than me.
Is this class suitable for autistic or ADHD people?
Yes. This class is specifically designed to support autistic, ADHD, and neurodivergent people. It is sensory-aware, predictable, and calm, with no pressure to perform or keep up.
I have autism and ADHD and run the class in a way that works for me. Find out more about me here. I always have regular rest periods and will remind members to drink if they need and take additional rest if needed.
Is the class sensory-friendly?
Yes. The class is run with sensory sensitivity in mind. Music is kept at a manageable volume, instructions are calm and clear, and the class is held at a quieter time in the gym to reduce overwhelm.
Will I be put on the spot or singled out?
No. You will never be singled out, called forward, or asked to perform in front of others. You are welcome to blend into the group and participate at your own pace. I will go around and support with movements if you or anyone is struggling but if this isn’t something you like, I am happy to only intervene if injury might occur.
Do I have to talk to anyone?
No. You are not required to talk, introduce yourself, or interact with others if you don’t want to. You can simply arrive, take part, and leave. I do need to address the group and will have to ask you about any injuries I need to be aware of. If you would rather communicate electronically, that is fine, I will be as flexible as possible to meet your communication needs.
What if I feel anxious during the class?
That’s okay. You are free to take breaks, sit down, step outside, or stop early if needed. There is no judgement for listening to your body or your nervous system.
Will I know what exercises we are doing before the class?
Yes. The full exercise list is shared in advance via email for anyone signed up to reminders. This helps reduce anxiety by allowing you to prepare ahead of time.
What exercises are included in a Legs, Bums & Tums class?
Exercises typically focus on lower body and core strength. These may include squats, glute bridges, lunges or alternatives, and standing or mat-based core exercises. All exercises have options and modifications.
Do I need to be fit to attend?
No. You do not need to be “fit enough” to attend. This class is about accessible movement, not fitness levels or appearance.
What should I wear?
Wear comfortable clothing you can move in. Gym wear is optional; you do not need specialist outfits. Supportive trainers are recommended.
Can I arrive late or leave early?
Yes and no. If you need to leave early for whatever reason, that is fine and there is no pressure to explain yourself.
Unfortunately if you arrive late, I won’t be able to allow you to join in. This is because we do a warm up to start and you must be warmed up to take part.
What happens if I’m early?
If you’re early, that is absolutely OK. There is a class in the studio beforehand which finishes at 11:30, and after that you are welcome to go into the studio to wait.
If you would rather keep busy to manage anxiety, you can use the ladies-only gym or stay in the main gym; walking on a treadmill can be a nice gentle warm-up before class.
You can also wait on the bench seating outside the studio. I will aim to be in the studio at least 5 minutes before the 11:45am start time to set up and greet anyone new.
Where does the class take place?
The class takes place at JD Gyms Wolverhampton every Saturday at 11:45am.
It is upstairs in the main studio which will be closed to other members during the class. If you don’t know where this is or would like me to meet you before hand I am happy to do so and just ask that you let me know in advance so I can make sure to arrive in time.
How do I get reminders for the class?
You can sign up via the reminder form on this page to receive gentle reminders and the exercise list before each session. You can unsubscribe at any time.
How much is the class?
The class is free for members of JD Gyms.
How do I book onto the class?
You don’t need to book this class - JD Gyms do not have a booking system and members are expected to just turn up at the studio at the start time. I know that this can be quite distressing and if you would like to message me in advance to let me know you would like to attend I will make sure to look out for you.
Is it always you that runs the class?
Yes. It will always be me (Rhiannon Cooper). In the event that I am unwell or not available, this particular class will not go ahead.
This is because I cannot promise the same structure should another personal trainer run the class. Every effort will be made to keep you and other members informed of any changes to the schedule but I would also advise you to follow me on social media to see any last minute updates. If notice cannot be given for whatever reason and another instructor turns up to take the class, you are more than welcome to either stay and take part (if you want to!) or politely decline.
