Health and Fitness That Works for Neurodivergent Brains

Ever Felt Like Fitness Wasn’t Built for You?

If you’ve ever walked into a gym and felt out of place… If you’ve been spoken down to, overwhelmed by the noise, or lost trying to figure out equipment… If you’ve started again more times than you can count… You’re not alone.

I’m Rhiannon, a neurodivergent personal trainer based in Wolverhampton. I’m an autistic ADHDer with my own complicated history with food, fitness, and my body. I’ve lost over 100 lbs, and put most of it back on. That journey isn’t a failure. It’s one of my biggest strengths.

Because I know what it’s like to give your best and still feel like you’re not getting it “right.” I know how hard it is to juggle mental health, executive dysfunction, sensory overload, and all the invisible barriers no one else sees.

And I know that traditional fitness doesn’t work for everyone.

Why Fitness With Me Feels Different

I created Not So Typical Fitness because I didn’t see myself, or people like me, represented in fitness spaces. I’m not the kind of trainer who will:

  • Bark orders at you

  • Push unrealistic expectations

  • Hand you a rigid meal plan and expect you to follow it perfectly

Instead, I will:

  • Ask how your brain works before suggesting how your body should move

  • Turn down the music if it’s too much

  • Explain an exercise as many times as you need, without judgement

  • Build flexible, ADHD-friendly support that works with you, not against you

No cookie-cutter plans. No “no excuses” slogans. Just a human approach that adapts to your needs.

Who I Support (Maybe That’s You)

I work with people who often feel left out of traditional fitness, including:

  • Autistic adults starting exercise for the first time

  • ADHD women looking for structure without feeling trapped

  • Anxious gym-avoiders who want a softer entry point

  • Anyone who’s ever felt like they don’t belong in fitness spaces

The only requirement? A willingness to try; whatever “trying” looks like for you.

You Don’t Need to Be Fixed

I became a personal trainer because I didn’t feel welcome in gyms.

I want to change that.

You don’t need to be skinny, confident, neurotypical, or already fit to start. You just need to show up. It might be with a messy bun, full of nerves, overwhelm and all, but just know that you’ll be met with kindness, patience, and flexible support.

Because you don’t need fixing. You just need a trainer who listens, adapts, and actually gets it.

  • Ask how your brain works before suggesting how your body should move

  • Turn down the music if it's overstimulating

  • Explain every exercise clearly; as many times as needed

  • Create flexible, ADHD-friendly support that works with you, not against you

I don't do cookie-cutter plans. Whether you're building confidence with weights, learning gym equipment without panicking, or just finding courage to walk through the doors, I'll be right there beside you.

This video demonstrates proper walking lunge technique with a clear message: fitness isn't about appearance—it's about strength, health, and feeling good in your body. As a personal trainer in Wolverhampton who specialises in creating inclusive fitness environments, I believe everyone deserves access to quality training regardless of shape, size, or experience level.
